San Francisco’s move to hire CBDC developer signals digital currency progress – Here’s what’s the latest

According to the job advertisement, the salary for this position at the bank is up to $215,000.
“As part the Federal Reserve’s mission promote accessible, secure, and efficient systems that facilitate dollar transactions,” the Federal Reserve System is seeking a senior technonologist to conduct central bank digital currency research, development,” the bank stated in the advertisement.
“Given the importance of the dollar, the Federal Reserve System seeks further understanding the cost and benefits potential technologies for central banks digital currencies (CBDC) and how the system can better understand this emerging field.
This move follows a San Francisco Fed job posting titled “senior app developer – digital currency”. More job opportunities could soon be made available, as more efforts are underway to create a CBDC-focused group.
According to the latest announcement, the chosen candidate will be part of a team at the forefront of technology research and development in central banks digital currency. They will be responsible for developing and implementing systems that are critical to CBDC research.
Candidates must have a Bachelor’s degree in computer science, management information system or a similar technical discipline or equivalent education and experience. Candidates must have a proven track record in designing and maintaining digital payment, crypto, and/or CBDCs. Candidates must also have programming experience.
According to the bank, “The Senior Application Architect works directly with management, other developers, development operations teams and vendors to ensure that Federal Reserve is well-positioned for design, development, and implementation of technology to support a CBDC, as may be required.
The selected candidate will be responsible for overseeing the design and architecture of new systems and directing the efforts and resources of responsible development teams.
It is important to note that applicants must be U.S. citizens, or have a Green Card with an intent to become U.S. citizens.
